Perhaps many sportsmen, even among professionals, do not know that there is a winning combination between Zone Diet and sport. In reality this type of feeding was tested many years ago by its inventor, Barry Sears, right in the sports world.
It is often heard that "carbohydrates are the fuel of the sportsman".
Certainly carbohydrates are the main source of energy but the optimization of the ratio of carbohydrates (40%), proteins (30%), and fats (30%) typical of the Zone, it favors a better Insulin response favoring the use of one's body fat as energy source and consequently improving not only the performance but also the state of health.

In fact, the carbohydrates we eat are Zuccheri (yes, even pasta or bread are Zuccheri) and, once the digestive processes have been undergone, they are partly used immediately and partly deposited in the muscles and the liver in the form of glycogen and in the adipose tissue in the form of triglycerides. But when we eat a lot of carbohydrates, when they are in excess of their immediate needs and our body can not use them right away, our control system to prevent blood from turning into a "syrup", is activated to make more and more insulin. , with the risk of hyperinsulinemia (high insulin in the blood), leading our body to a rather frequent disease in recent years: diabetes.

In order to avoid this chain process, it is advisable to modulate the intake of carbohydrates (a low glycemic index favoring whole fruits and cereals), Proteins (because Glucagon, hormone produced by protein intake is insulin antagonist), and monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
In the next issues we will investigate the various aspects of nutrition in sport and especially in football, however attentive to the peculiarities of the female body.
