The arrival at Empoli was for sure, only the official was expected. Giulia Orlandi, last season Fiorentina Women's captain, is now a new blue athlete.

Class'87, midfielder, the Orlandi comes from an unforgettable vintage, also because the viola team has won the Italian Cup and Scudetto, reaching the Champions League qualification.
On the other hand, Giulia is not new to the Empoli environment: she followed the blue women on their way to Serie A, making the Ladies feel all her friendship. She was there, for example, on the occasion of the last trip to Genoa, when Empoli Ladies hit the promotion with a nice victory on the Lagaccio Friendship field. The Empolese society, grateful for the affection transmitted by this girl, has decided to give Giulia the Fair Play prize for the blue dinner at the end of the year.

Hello Giulia, how did the Fiorentina captain experience go?

It was an incredible vintage. We have worked hard, there have been many difficulties, but in the end we have achieved great goals. Being a Fiorentina captain means carrying on an intense job: you are in a high-level group, made up of girls who also come from other countries. During the season, there are times when some people do not agree with others, it's physiological: in those situations, you have to create a dialogue between the girls to regain harmony. I think I managed to do my job, also because at the end of the season I had a strong declaration of esteem from my companions. For me it was a great satisfaction. I have enriched myself as a person.

Last season, you also found the time to follow the company of the blue ... how do you see the group of Ladies and what prompted you to come and play in Empoli at this time of your career?

I play football, but I also have a job and I want to keep it. The Empoli Ladies will allow me to carry on both things calmly, also because we will train in the evening. It will be a new adventure. I know girls well, it's a close-knit group. It will certainly be a different path. We want to keep the category and for this we will have to fight on every point. We will try to make a good championship and not to find ourselves on the last day to reach salvation. We must also think that Seria A is changing a lot: all the teams have strengthened and the old hierarchies are not so sure anymore. There may be many surprises: some teams fighting for salvation could earn points that they did not anticipate and eventually some numbers can really make a difference. There are many new teams that have to find the right line of play: we will see who will succeed.

As you just said, it's a moment of change for Italian women's football. How do you see this sport in ten years?

I believe that professional men's societies will increasingly enter women's football. They are realizing that, even if you make small investments, you get great results in women. With the arrival of companies such as Fiorentina, Empoli, Juventus, the level of competition is rising a lot: the girls who play in Serie A are required a great effort to face such demanding challenges. For this reason, it is necessary to guarantee the athletes economic security, to give them serenity and stimulate them to play at these levels. No expensive or even long-term contracts are required: it would be so much if every athlete had the right financial support for the current year.

You are a midfielder. What are your qualities in the game?

In the past I played in different positions, both as a low median and as a push player. My optimal position is the central one: I attack the opponents, I break the game and restart. In every game, I put a lot of desire, a lot of grit and a lot point on the race.
