12 years after the last participation, the Azzurri return to play one of the most important tournaments in Europe. The debut on March 4 in Faro against the hosts of Portugal
Rome, 20 February 2020 - Less than two weeks are left for the women's national team to debut in the Algarve Cup, the prestigious tournament scheduled for 4 to 11 March in the Portuguese Algarve region.

From this year the competition - which will also be attended by Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, New Zealand and Germany - has a new format: the eight national teams registered will face off on Wednesday 4 March in the quarterfinals, with the winners on Saturday March 7 will give life to the semifinals and the losers who will compete for placements from 5th to 8th place.

On 4 March (20.15 pm local, 21.15 pm Italian) the Azzurri will take on the hosts of Portugal (31st position in the FIFA Ranking), already beaten in both qualifying matches for the French World Cup. The tournament represents an important and useful test bench to better prepare the fundamental challenges of 10 and 14 April, which will see Italy return to the field against Israel and Bosnia to continue the path that sees them at the top of the score in the group of qualification for the 2021 European Championship.

The coach Milena Bertolini has called up 23 players, who will gather on Thursday 27 February in Venice to leave for Portugal in the evening. Cecilia Salvai returns to the national team 11 months after the knee injury that forced her to miss the World Cup, while they find the blue shirt three years after the last call-up Tatiana Bonetti and Katja Schroffenegger.
